"At the Chicago West Community Music Center on Monday, October 1, 2012, City Year Chicago witnessed the combination of two great things: music and education. We had the opportunity to hear from Lupe Fiasco, one of Chicago’s very own, about the importance of creativity, education, and our responsibility to empower our children to continue both in this world full of violence and corruption. It was such a pleasure to hear from a world-renowned artist such as Fiasco in such a small, intimate setting about topics like creativity and education, two subjects near-and-dear to City Year’s heart.  He also spoke about the specific violence and poverty that has overtaken our city and how we, as a society, need to embrace and to celebrate the richness of Chicago’s music, art, and youth in order to defer the negativity in our city and in the rest of the world."
